Export control is not always at the top of our minds, yet increasingly is an important topic for universities and science laboratories. Export control touches our research at Berkeley Lab in multiple ways, some not as obvious as we might think. Lab Director Mike Witherell shares his thoughts on our export control responsibilities in this video.
Export control failures can result in significant consequences for both Berkeley Lab and for individual employees, with violations carrying the possibility of fines, prison sentences, and the loss of federal funding. The Lab takes its stewardship commitments seriously, and encourages each employee to help safeguard the Lab’s excellent reputation by meeting this important compliance obligation.
To help us all succeed in this individual and collective responsibility, the Lab has created a short 25-minute Export Control General Awareness Training video. This video provides education on export controls generally, explains when to seek help, and identifies the resources that are available to you.
